If you are looking for a romantic comedy to bring your girlfriend to in April then have we got two movies for you. Date Night and The Backup Plan each are released in April on the 9th and the 23rd respectively. That basically covers the entire month. Both of these movies look like they will be great fun and perfect for a date night.

Speaking of date night, let’s talk about the movie with that name. Steve Carrell and Tina Fey star in this action/comedy and I don’t think you can ask for two better headliners. Steve Carrell could be the funniest actor on television for his part as Michael on the successful television show, The Office. Similarly, Tina Fey is also a big television star on 30 Rock. These two teaming up for a movie can only result in laughs.

Date Night revolves around a couple, Phil and Clara Foster, who want to spice up their romantic lives. They decide to go to a classy restaurant in downtown New York, where they steal the reservations of two guests who did not show up. This results in a case of mistaken identity which creates a night full of action and adventure for the couple. This movie looks very funny. Carrell is one of my favourite actors so I’m definitely going to be watching this one when it comes out on the 9th of April.

The other romantic comedy being released in April is The Backup Plan, starring Jennifer Lopez and relative newcomer, Alex O’loughlin. A J-Lo movie hasn’t been released since 2006 so this movie will act as the return of the star.

In the movie Jennifer Lopez plays Zoe, who is a lady, who after years of dating has given up on men, but still wants to be a mother. She decides to undergo artificial insemination in order to get pregnant and have a kid like she has always wanted. However, as fate would have it, on the day of her artificial insemination she meets Stan, played by Alex O’loughlin.
The two fall for each other and this begins the comedy of the two getting to know each other and build a relationship, while Zoe is pregnant and going through the typical preparations of becoming a mother. This movie looks like it hit or miss. The concept isn’t the greatest in my opinion, but if the writing is comical and the chemistry between Lopez and O’loughlin is believable then this movie could be a box office hit.

So, if it’s your girlfriend’s birthday in April then why don’t you bring her to the movie theatre and watch one of these funny romance movies. They are spread apart very well so one of them will be new in theatres for almost all of April. I personally would rather watch Date Night if I have the choice, but I may be biased because I’m a fan of Steve Carrell. Either way a trip to the cinema is always a good time and these movies are perfect for dates.
