Now, game is not just the main thing that can define your Nintendo DS. With the introduction and the issuance of the R4 and its latest incarnate the R4i; you can now see the Nintendo gaming console in a different light. These two flash cards ensure that your Nintendo gaming console is no longer just for the games rather these flash cards allow you to enjoy a whole range of other activities from storing pictures and music to storing and playing movies. Thanks to these functionalities, the Nintendo gaming console has been transformed into one multi-media gadget.

The developers of the flash cards did not stop there. Feel like reading books and feeling intellectual for a day? Now you can rely on the R4 and the R4i to check out e-books online, store it on the console and read these downloaded e-books all day. And are you the type of person who eat and breathe games and other software? Then you can consider R4 and R4i heaven-sent since there are thousands of free homebrew games, applications and emulators.

These things can be stored on the Nintendo can be done in just a few clicks. And in order to make saving, storing and viewing all these files the R4 and the R4i come with the Micro SD card. Without this card, the flash cards and the console will not function properly.

Using the R4

Once you have purchased your own flash card, then the next thing to do is to use the flash card on the Nintendo device. Using the flash card is easy and will not require the users to have advanced learning in the technology. First up is to place the Micro SD card into the card reader, and you should place the card reader into the USB port of the computer. Once linked, you can open the browser of your computer and download the newest software kernel that can be used for the R4. You will be prompted to open a Zip file; open that file and you can transfer all the contents of that file into the Micro SD card. You can create a separate folder on the Micro SD, and you should rename the card for easy access. For example, you can rename the card based on the kind of content that you will store like ‘movies’ and ‘games’. The good thing about the R4 and the R4i is that these flash cards offer that ‘drag and drop’ functionality which means that you can easily drag files and drop that on the folder that you have created.

There are a number of files that can be dragged and dropped. For example, users can easily transfer Nintendo DS homebrew software. This is the unofficial software written for the DS by the gamers and the hobbyist and difference from the official and original software written by the production and designer team of Nintendo. Other than the homebrew DS games and software, you can also easily drag and drop music, movies and games. Now place the Micro SD into the back of the flash card and click. Insert this into the DS and turn on. Just press A and you can now select the media that you would to play!

Gamers tend to regard the DS just for games. But this time around, the DS can be used for other purposes as well. Now thanks to the R4 and the R4i, you can now store and watch movies, read e-books and even listen to the music. These flash cards have redefined the use of the DS.
