Slipknot is very familiar with music lovers all around the world. They are an American metal band head quartered at Des Moines, Iowa. Nine talented and enterprising musicians bonded together as Slipknot in 1995 and produced a rather unique and extreme musical style and performance. They attracted a large number of enthusiastic fans. They were different in their makeover and composition, as a change to other groups they performed with two percussionists alongside their primary drummer. Their lyrics have provided loud and strong tones with a negative subject matter like anger and emotions.

Slipknot released their maiden album on Halloween in the year 1996, with mixed reaction from the fans, some ecstatic others not so. They concluded a deal with Roadrunner records and for the first time for Roadrunner records they achieved platinum sales status in the year 2000. There was no looking back from then and their second album, “Iowa” was released with great success in 2001. They were on tour and presented many different concerts receiving rave reviews and was nominated for a Grammy in 2002.

Slipknot band were known for their electrifying and often chaotic live shows with a lot of energy. This was contagious and spread the same feeling to the audience with astounding success. Their popularity charts soared much to the delight of their followers. The striking feature of their performances was their costumes and masks. The members of the band wear stylish and matching jumpsuit uniforms with a different and unique mask for each one of them. The slip
knot uniforms displayed UPC barcodes printed on the back and sleeves. Apart from their names, Slipknot musicians are known by numbers zero to eight. With every new album slipknot wore different masks and jumpsuits, which was a novel attraction to their fans.

The change in attire demonstrated growth and difference with age. Slipknot also used death masks made from casts of their own faces. There were extreme positions taken to the masks with the critics claiming that it is just a stunt to enhance the sale of their products. To counter these criticisms, slipknot justifies that the masks draw attention from them and put it on the music.

None of all these could distract their fans from the music created by this musical genius. Slipknot brought out three DVD’s, including Disaster pieces, which was qualified as a quadruple platinum in the United States. The sales of these masterpieces have crossed over 14 million records world wide, such is the fantastic name & fame of Slipknot.

Slipknot has the great distinction of winning the Grammy for Best Metal Performance for “Before I Forget “in 2006. Nothing good can last for long and fate has played a cruel role in the destiny of slipknot. Tragedy struck when bassist Paul Grey was found dead in a hotel room in Urbandale, Iowa on 24th May, 2010 while his wife, Brenna Gray was expecting their first child. While this premature loss of life is mourned by all his fans and slipknots surviving members, there is mystery surrounding his untimely death. On 21st June, the reason of death is confirmed as an accidental overdose of morphine and fentanyl. Now the future of Slipknot faces the question “Slipknot Alive or Dead “
